General Information
Serving as a recreation facility since 1985, the Old Armory Recreation Center provides quality recreational programs for all age groups. Built in 1936, the facility served as a National Guard Armory until renovations in 1985 added a cafeteria, two classrooms, and an upstairs fitness wing to convert the facility to a recreation center.
As a part of the Waynesville Recreation Department, the Center provides some recreational opportunities at no cost that include open-play basketball, 1/20-mile lap-walking track and senior citizen weight exercise.
Other activities that apply a nominal monthly fee include karate, judo, art class, youth theater, dance class, clogging, square dance, and bridge. Also, the Old Armory Center out sources some of its space to Mountain Projects as a Senior Nutrition Center.
Lastly, the Waynesville Old Armory Recreation Center rents space to the public for special events. Such events include birthday/graduation/anniversary parties, family reunions, benefits and other various events and occasions.
The Old Armory Recreation Center is free to use. There may be a fee for some of the programs. For program information please visit the program section of this website.
